How do I exchange electronically with my partner?
Exactly how you do this will depend on the computer and program you're using. The basic procedure is this:
- Write and send your argument to your partner as the body of an email (do not use attachments).
- When you get your partner's argument as an email, use the "reply" function of your email program being sure that your reply starts with a copy of your partner's argument. (There is normally a function or question which asks if you want to include the email sent with your reply) Scroll down to below your partner's argument and write your critical analysis, again as the body of the message. Do not use attachments. Send your reply, which should consist of your partner's argument followed by your critical analysis, to your partner.
- When you receive your argument followed by your partner's critical analysis, you will write your best reasoned response to your partner's criticisms at the end and then use the "forward" function of your email program to send the case directly to me (berkich@gmail.com) by midnight of the due date.
What you must avoid at all costs is sending each section of the case as separate emails. It would only serve to confuse. Much the same can be said against attachments. Never send attachments.
Finally, here are a few critical pitfalls to avoid:
- Never, ever, under any circumstances, send attachments. If you do, it will be clear that you have not bothered to read these instructions.
- Some 'free' email services like Hotmail and Yahoo truncate especially long emails. If you insist on using these services, you should always cc emails to yourself to be sure that all of your email gets sent. This is very important: I cannot mark what I do not have, and if a Response section is cut-off, you've lost those points.
- Never ignore emails and phone calls from your partner. If you are having trouble completing the case, you should contact your partner as soon as possible.
