Problem Set 11

Problem Set 11

Instructions

This problem set is due in class Tuesday, 11/20. Again, I do not mind students working on the problem sets in groups--it is, in fact, encouraged--but your answers must be your own. If you have any question, puzzle, or require clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me (berkich@gmail.com; 3976 office, 944-2756 mobile--texts strongly preferred).

Where Am I?

Having carefully re-read Daniel C. Dennett's, "Where Am I?", in no more than two typed, double-spaced pages, and in light of our discussion about personal identity last Thursday and, particularly, the reasons for and against Dennett himself gives in the course of the essay, provide justified (as best you can) answers to the following questions raised by the essay:

  1. Is Dennett Hamlet? Why or why not?
  2. Is Dennett Yorick? Why or why not?
  3. Is Dennett wherever he thinks he is? Why or why not?
  4. Upon completing his mission, is Dennett Fortinbras? Why or why not?
  5. Is Fortinbras Hubert? Why or why not?
  6. Is Dennett Hubert? Why or why not?
