Examination III

Please note that we take the third of our four examinations today. This exam is similar to the last one--mostly T/F and MC with one extra-credit essay question at the end. It is not as long as the last exam, clocking in at 55 questions (not including the extra credit question at the end), as opposed to the 70 questions from the last exam which seemed to hurt students on time.

A brief word on extra credit, if I may: While it is true that one does not have to go on to answer the extra credit question to do well on the exam, ignoring any extra credit opportunity is, frankly, foolish. The points you earn on extra credit can only help you; they cannot hurt you. The number of people who simply ignore extra credit is baffling, especially among those who seem so proud to leave the exam period early. Honestly, it's bizarre to see--I'm at a loss to explain it.

In any case, as per the syllabus, this exam is worth 150 points total. The exams are getting expensive

We will begin promptly; it is very important that you arrive on time. Plan on using the entire class time to complete the examination. As previously explained, the exam is organized into sections as follows:

  1. Kantian Ethical Theory
  2. Ethical Egoism (very briefly)
  3. Social Contract Theory
  4. Applying Kantian Ethical Theory and Social Contract Theory
  5. Extra Credit
