Term Paper Presentation
Here are some thoughts about your presentations you may find useful as you put the finishing touches on them.
First, we have (give or take) about twelve active students in the class, so figure about ten minutes to present with a few minutes for questions.
Second, how you present is entirely up to you. Some feel more comfortable with PowerPoint presentations, others like to write on the board, some just like to read a ten minute summary. I honestly have no particular expectations except that:
- You must present your argument--what is the point you make in your paper? We're not interested in what others have said at this stage, unless your argument is a criticism of some position or other which you would, of course, need to spell out.
- You must be clear and concise in your presentation. Ten minutes is not a lot of time; you will burn through it much faster than you can imagine.
- You must expect questions, clarifications, criticisms, etc., just as if you were presenting at a conference.
Third, please note that we will begin on Tuesday at 8:00am sharp. Our session ends at 10:30, although we may go a few minutes late depending on follow-up questions. Further, everyone is as a matter of academic courtesy expected to stay the entire time and contribute. The order in which you go will be up to you.
